Diablos is weak to Ice and Dragon. Break the left horn first and bring a Lance if you want the cleanest first clear. The charge is an invitation if you have a shield.
Field notes
Diablos overview
Diablos is the desert's straightforward bully: a huge horned wyvern that charges in straight lines and disappears underground when you find a rhythm. Its body is armored, so the head, belly and tail are the useful targets. Bait a charge, sidestep, then punish the leg or tail while it turns.
The burrow is the move that decides novice hunts. A small sand cloud appears before the monster goes under; when it comes back up, the lunge can reach across most of the arena. Sheathing early and running at an angle is safer than trying to roll at the last moment.

Element check
Diablos weakness & best weapons
Elemental damage is only part of the answer. Choose a weapon that can safely reach the part you need to break. The recommendations below are a starting point for a first clear, not a hard rule.
| Weakness | Recommended weapon | Why it works |
|---|---|---|
| Ice / Dragon | Lance | Hold the line, answer the charge It gives you a clean route to the main break. |
| Secondary option | Bow | Coatings, charge and clean angles Use it if you are already comfortable with the moveset. |
| Matchup plan | Heavy Bowgun | A flexible alternative for players who prefer range, shields or a faster rhythm. |

Breakable parts & materials
The recommended break order is: 1. Left horn, 2. Right horn, 3. Back, 4. Tail. This is the safest sequence for a typical first hunt. If your armor or weapon recipe needs a specific part, target that break and leave the rest for a later run.

Hunt plan
How to beat Diablos
Bait a charge into open ground
Stay just outside the horn range and force the charge. Once it passes, the turn is slow. Follow the body and hit a leg or the tail; this is more reliable than trying to head-snipe during the dust.
Do not guard the second half of a combo
Diablos can chain a tail sweep after a charge. Shield users should hold the guard through the follow-up instead of lowering it for an early punish. Ranged hunters should keep enough distance to see both the head and the tail.
Mark the burrow start
The burrow is telegraphed by a sand ring. Move perpendicular to the monster's facing direction, not directly away. The rise attack tracks in a line and can hit a hunter who retreats straight back.
Break horns after a topple
Both horns can break, and the tail is severable. Use a mount, a leg break or a successful wall interaction to create the head window. A single committed horn break is often enough to unlock the next weapon upgrade.
Radiantite watch
Radiant form & variant notes
No separate Radiant form has been clearly confirmed for Diablos. Aesoland's ecosystem is still changing, so this page will be updated if one appears in a future update. For the confirmed transformations, see the Radiant species guide.
Preparation
Diablos checklist
- Ice is the best general element; Dragon is the alternative.
- Bait charges rather than chasing the head.
- The burrow follows a line — dodge sideways.
- Break the tail for extra reach control and rare materials.
First-clear rule
Pick one break, one element and one safe punish. Do not try to optimize the entire hunt before you have survived it once.
