Quick answer

Monster Hunter Outlanders has native controller support at launch. Compatible USB-C and Bluetooth controllers work for combat and open-world exploration. Menu navigation still requires the touchscreen. You can remap buttons under Settings → Controller, and Adventure Mode simplifies combat to Attack, React and Burst.

Field note

Does Monster Hunter Outlanders support controllers?

Yes. Native controller support is available in the launch build, including compatible USB-C and Bluetooth controllers. You do not need a third-party mapping app for combat or exploration.

The limitation is menus. Inventory, event screens and other interface panels still expect touch input, so a controller cannot replace the phone or tablet entirely.

Field note

How to connect and remap

Pair the controller through your device's Bluetooth settings or connect it by USB-C, then open the game. The controller should be recognized automatically.

Open Settings → Controller to review the mapping. The controls are divided into Combat, Interact with Environment and System tabs. You can change individual assignments or use Reset All to restore the defaults.

  • Pair the controller before launching the game.
  • Open Settings → Controller and confirm the device is detected.
  • Review the Combat, Environment and System tabs.
  • Test the lock-on, dodge and skill buttons in the training area.

Field note

What controller support covers

Combat and exploration are the supported areas. You can move through the open field, attack, dodge, use skills and interact with the environment using physical buttons.

Menu navigation, shop purchases and some event screens remain touch-only. Keep the screen accessible even when you are playing with a controller.

Field note

Adventure Mode is the simpler alternative

If touch controls are the problem, Adventure Mode groups combat into three buttons: Attack, React and Burst. It can execute combos automatically when you press Attack and provides weapon hints for new players.

The trade-off is control. Classic Mode exposes the full moveset, while Adventure Mode hides some of the context needed to execute every move manually. Use the Weapon Training Grounds in Tutorials & Guides to learn the full kit before switching.

Field note

Controller troubleshooting

If the controller connects but does not respond in game, close and reopen the app, then reconnect the device. On Android, check that the controller is not paired to another nearby device.

Button prompts can differ by controller layout. If a prompt does not match, open the Controller settings and compare the assignment rather than assuming the default layout.

  • Disconnect other Bluetooth devices that may capture the controller.
  • Re-pair the controller, then restart the game.
  • Check the Controller settings for a custom layout.
  • Keep the touchscreen available for menus and claims.
